The Twelve Traditions of Marijuana Anonymous

  1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon M.A. unity. Go to Tradition One
  2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority, a loving God whose expression may come through in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern. Go to Tradition Two
  3. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using marijuana. Go to Tradition Three
  4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or M.A. as a whole. Go to Tradition Four
  5. Each group has but one primary purpose, to carry its message to the marijuana addict who still suffers. Go to Tradition Five
  6. M.A. groups ought never endorse, finance, or lend the M.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose. Go to Tradition Six
  7. Every M.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. Go to Tradition Seven
  8. Marijuana Anonymous should remain forever nonprofessional, but our service centers may employ special workers. Go to Tradition Eight
  9. M.A., as such, ought never be organized, but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve. Go to Tradition Nine
  10. Marijuana Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the M.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy. Go to Tradition Ten
  11. Our public relations policy is based upon attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, t.v., film, and other public media. We need guard with special care the anonymity of all fellow M.A. members. Go to Tradition Eleven
  12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities. Go to Tradition Twelve
